2007 is half over, but what an amazing year!

Software professionals define Scrum as "a process framework that allows organizations to continuously direct projects toward early delivery of real business value through the frequent and regular delivery of high quality software." At the beginning of 2007, the DSC Development Team adopted this process with some skepticism, but the outcome has been remarkable.

For the first time in the history of our company—or in the history of any software company I've worked with—this month, the development team delivered every line of code promised on-time, and—are you ready for this—defect free. Peanuts Teamwork

Was it that way last month? No.

Was it that way at any other time in the last six months? No.

Was it so in the last year—or in the last five years? No.

Don't get me wrong. This drastic improvement did not happen overnight, and Scrum is not the only magic that made it happen.

For years, DSC and the development team have worked to improve our processes—and every year we have gotten better, but at the same time, we have worked long and hard to meld a solid team. Our success came from a combination of the right process and this solid team's determination to make it happen. I am extremely proud of this team—my team—and in the months ahead, I expect EnvisionConnect users everywhere to find themselves in total awe of this team's accomplishments.

Forgive me. I'm no polished marketing guru, so most likely I shouldn't be saying any of this—but I feel I must. In fact, I will even go further out on the limb and tell you a secret: This development team plans to deliver so much base functionality—and in such record time that ninety percent of all Envision users will have the option to migrate to EnvisionConnect by August 1, 2007—and honestly, I believe we will pull it off.
