Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-Bing!—zip!

walkDuring lunch, I often walk around the block or two, convincing myself that I am getting at least a minimal amount of exercise. Ordinarily, those walks are quite boring, but yesterday something remarkable happened.

As I walked towards a distant office that had it's door open, I heard a peculiar sound...

Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-Bing!—zip!

Huh?

Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-Bing!—zip!

What the heck was that?

I'd heard it before, but long ago. I couldn't quite recall...

Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-Bing!—zip!

Before this distraction, I had been thinking about the dotNet user group meeting tonight at Fresno State. Jeff Atwood, one of my favorite blog authors will be presenting, along with his boss, Vertigo Software CEO Scott Stanfield. They will be discussing Silverlight and WPF—the latest buzz words from the Microsoft camp.

Me—being an old Borland Delphi guy—I had just made-up my mind not to go. I'd just get some of the dotNet gurus on my team to check it out. As a manager, I really don't need to stay that close to the new techie stuff—do I?

By now, I was close enough to recognize the sounds.

It was a typewriter.

Wow—I learned to use a keyboard on one of those.Virtual Keyboard

Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-bing, zip!

People still use typewriters?

It seems like only yesterday that I...

Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-Bing!—zip!

I wonder what we'll be using ten years from now?

Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-Bing!—zip!

What if computers are replaced by something I know nothing about?

Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-Bing!—zip!

Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-Bing!—zip!

Klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-klik, klik-klik-Bing!—zip!

...I think I'd better check out tonight's user group meeting after all.
