'It’s interrupting our Sprint' was the battle cry."
Monday, my team will travel downtown for our annual EnvisionConnect User Training and Conference. We are not feeling the pain Chris describes, because the event was scheduled far in advance and it falls between sprints—but I can certainly relate to his team's pain.
Many times over the year's—even before we adopted Scrum—folks have said to Kevin Delaney, "Is it really productive having all of your developers attend the users conference? Why can't your Client Services and Marketing departments handle the event?"
Kevin likes to give the team a day or two to escape the routine of the office—but I find there's another good reason: When developers and clients get to know each other, both are reminded that the other is human—that we all have good days and bad days.
These events provide a means of extending truth, trust, and transparency beyond our office and into our user community, and truly my team looks forward to it.
