The more things change, the more they stay the same

Last night—for my wife's birthday—I took her to see Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift. I knew none of the songs. The last country concert I saw was Conway Twitty.

lighter-phone Anyway, today's country concert is very different.

It reminded me of the rock concerts I attended even further in my way-back machine. Most of the audience wasn't born when I saw Conway last. The girls were there to show-off the skirts—or lack thereof—and the guys were they to watch the show—and the concert, too.

Anyway, as I'm sitting there thinking of all of these kids at the concert and watching the re-invented rock-style light shows of my youth, they started one of those slow songs that makes you want to sway from side-to-side in unison.

I'm thinking: Cigarette lighters are out these days, but if some entrepreneur could come of with some sort of light that these kids could sway from side-to-side with, I'll bet that would really sell!

That's when everyone pulled out their cell phones and started a digital wave.

I guess I need to get out more.

I can remember when there was a push to ban cameras at concerts, and security gorillas were confiscating video cameras, charging concert-goers with pirating. Today, everyone's filming the show with their cell phones!

Maybe it's not too late to re-invent the concert beach ball?
