As you know, Decade Software is a Scrum shop, but not only in Development. Every department in our company practices Scrum to some extent, so when Axosoft promoted their OnTime tool as supporting Scrum, we jumped on it.
Unfortunately, Axosoft OnTime does not support Scrum out of the box, and—working with several in their support department—we were never able to customize it to support more than 75% of Scrum.
However, we have used other tools—like Microsoft Reporting services and custom SQL Server triggers—to fill in the gaps, so we have made OnTime a Scrum tool that delivers transparency throughout our office and out to our customers.
That said, this post is not really about Axosoft OnTime at all.
I needed to set the stage to talk about a freeware product that supports OnTime, FogBugz, and a number of other defect-tracking systems.
That product is Bug Shooting, and it does deliver as promised with no out-of-the-box tweaking required.
Bug Shooting is a screen capture utility. Wait. I know what you're thinking:
"Not another screen capture program. There's a million of them."
Bug Shooting is different. It is extremely intuitive. It give you tools to capture, quickly annotate, and send the shot directly to your bug tracking system or e-mail client.
It sits in your tray and takes mere seconds to capture and log a defect. Entering any descriptive text you add will actually take longer than interacting with Bug Shooting.
Yesterday, I asked Alexej Hirsh what made him create the application and give it to the development community.
"First I created Bug Shooting for working only with FogBugz, because I use FogBugz in my office, and I missed some functions in FogBugz's screenshot tool. I started using it only for documentation of software tests. Later, I decided to support more targets where screenshots can be sent, e.g. different bug trackers or mail clients. I wanted to create a program that covered all screenshot operations with a single tool."
Alexej says he used Bug Shooting throughout the day and has grown dependent on it.
"I use Bug Shooting the whole day in my office. I can fancy no day without BugShooting."
The same is true for many on my team—myself included.
Alexej Hirsh is not affiliated with any of the software companies or products supported by Bug Shooting, but I'll be those companies wish he was.
Give this freeware product a try. You'll thank me for it later.
