Charles Darwin is famous for saying that animals had to "Adapt or Die", but I thought about the phrase more recently—watching the movie Shoot 'em Up.
Wikipedia defines it like this...
"Adaptation enables living organisms to cope with environmental stresses and pressures. Organisms that are not suitably adapted to their environment will either have to move out of the habitat or die."
This definition refers to the concepts of Natural Selection—not building software or successful teams.
In software development and team-building—especially in Scrum—the term adaption refers to accessing the situation and rearranging plans and resources to solve discovered problems.
In retrospect: I don't think this negates Wikipedia's description. In fact, I think it applies perfectly!
